Who Was Jack The Ripper? Walter Sickert?

DATED: 30.07.13

There are people all over the world who call themselves “Ripperoligists”. Those are the people who are highly trained and well-informed in the stories and history of Jack the Ripper. The reason for Jack the Ripper story to be so fascinating is because the murderer has never been found and nobody knows the true identity of Jack the Ripper.

This is one of the reasons there are so many suspects and some of the speculations are crazier than others. In this article we discuss why it is thought that Walter Sickert may have been Jack the Ripper.

Walter Sickert was a well-known painter in Whitechapel around the time Jack the Ripper murdered. The reason some people think that Walter Sickert may have been Jack the Ripper was because his sketches and paintings of the murder scenes were very accurate and precise.

During the 1970s suspicions were raised towards Walter Sickert, especialy when the ‘Royal Conspiracy’ theory came out. It wasn’t, however, until the 1990s when  Jean Overton Fuller released the ‘Sickert and the Ripper Crimes’ book which made Walter Sickert the oficial Jack the Ripper suspect.

Since then Patricia Cornwell, a famous crime / thriller writer claims to have found the DNA evidence on a ‘Ripper Letter’; this DNA matches the DNA of the suspect Walter Sickert. This is spoken about in Patricia Cornwells book “Portrait of a Killer: Jack the Ripper Case Closed”

On Jack the Ripper Tours around London many tourists come up with their own theories about who Jack the Ripper could be.

Do you think Jack the Ripper could have been artist Walter Sickert?
