Efes Restaurant
Efes is a traditional Turkish restaurant that people flock to from all around the city. Despite this, it’s by no means a new restaurant, as it opened back in 1974. Mr Akkus was blissfully unaware that his restaurant would soon blossom into one of the best restaurants in the entire country, but it’s safe to say that this was a pleasant surprise. He went on to bolster his success further by partnering with a Halal British meat and poultry supplier, as this allowed for additional expansion in the comfort that all meat is fully British and Halal certified.
The Turkish fruit meze platter containing melon, orange, and feta cheese is a popular starter, and the tabouleh vegetarian salad with tomatoes, pepper, and bulgur is another fresh and healthy option. Continuing with the vegetarian theme, the grilled halloumi with salad is another starter that’s both filling and tasty. If you’re completely stumped by what you should eat, the Chef’s special is the way to go. This is otherwise known as Ali Nazik, which is finely chopped lamb over diced aubergine and garlic yoghurt. After all, the chef knows best.
Efes Restaurant is located at 1 Whitechapel Road, E1 6TY, which is just a three-minute walk from Aldgate East tube station and a 10-minute walk from Spitalfields Market.
